What is a Life Path number? What 1–9, 11, 22, 33 mean

The Life Path number — called “số chủ đạo” in Vietnam — is one number drawn from your full Gregorian birth day, month and year. How Inti Soul calculates the Life Path number
Inti Soul's numerology engine reduces the birth month, day and year separately (adding their digits, keeping 11, 22, 33), adds the three results, then reduces the total until one digit remains — unless the total is 11, 22 or 33. Two examples:
- 15/05/1990: month 5; day 15 becomes 6; year 1990 becomes 19, then 10, then 1. The total 5 + 6 + 1 = 12 reduces to 3 — Life Path 3.
- 29/11/1987: month 11 is kept; day 29 becomes 11; year 1987 becomes 25, then 7. The total 11 + 11 + 7 = 29 reduces to 11 — Life Path 11.
- Counted over every calendar date from 1900 to 2008, Life Path 11 covers about 6.5% of dates, 22 about 3% and 33 only about 0.7%.
Why do some sources give a “Life Path 10”?
Many numerology books popular in Vietnam use another convention: add all the digits of the birth date at once and stop when the total falls between 2 and 11, with 22 written as 22/4. Under that convention a “Life Path 10” exists. Inti Soul keeps reducing any total above 9 except 11, 22 and 33, so a total of 10 becomes 1. The two conventions can give different numbers for the same birth date; read descriptions written for the convention that produced your number, and do not mix the two in one reading.

Two people with the same Life Path number still have different names, environments, experiences, and other indicators. General descriptions are insufficient to conclude an individual's abilities, career, love life, or future. The number starts a deeper question; it is not the final answer.

Frequently asked questions
Is the core number the same as the Life Path number?
In common Vietnamese usage, ‘core number’ usually refers to Life Path. Names and conventions may differ among schools, so check the published formula.
Is there a Life Path 10 in numerology?
Not on Inti Soul: a total of 10 is reduced to 1. Some popular books stop at 2 to 11 and so have a 10; that is a difference of convention, not a calculation error.
Are 11, 22, and 33 preserved?
Some schools preserve these three numbers, while others reduce them further. What matters is using one convention consistently without claiming it is the only method.
Does the Life Path number determine a career?
No. It may suggest themes or motivations for reflection, but career choices also depend on abilities, circumstances, values, opportunities, and practical decisions.
