I Ching for love — cast a hexagram about the two of you
An I Ching reading for love uses one cast to look at a relationship from your own side: write down one clear question, toss three coins six times right below, then read the primary hexagram, the changing lines and the resulting hexagram as a mirror. The hexagram does not answer “is it meant to be or is it over”, and it cannot read the other person's heart; it helps you see where you stand in the relationship and how to take the next step with a clear head. The tool is free, needs no account, and asks for no name or birth date.

…One clear question
Ask about what you can understand or do, not about what is in someone else's heart.
One cast
Cast once for one question, then take time to read it.
The hexagram is a mirror
It describes the situation for reflection; it does not decide the outcome.
How to phrase a love question so the hexagram is easy to read
The more specific the question, the easier the hexagram is to read. The I Ching answers best the questions that start from you — what you are going through, what you can do — rather than questions that ask it to guess another person's thoughts or future. Write your question down before casting, and keep exactly that question while you read.
- Good question: “What do I need to understand about this relationship to decide clearly?”
- Good question: “How should I act over the coming month so that we can talk to each other?”
- Avoid: “Does this person still love me?” — a hexagram cannot read someone else's heart.
- Avoid packing several issues into one question, and avoid recasting until you get a hexagram you like.
Reading a hexagram about two people
Read in the familiar order. The primary hexagram describes the present context of the relationship as you experience it. In the traditional reading, the lower trigram (inner trigram) speaks of what is inside — your feelings and motives — while the upper trigram (outer trigram) speaks of what is outside: circumstances, the other person, what is happening around the two of you. The changing lines, numbered from 1 at the bottom to 6 at the top, show where the situation is turning; low lines tend to relate to beginnings, high lines to a point that has gone far or is about to overshoot. The resulting hexagram is where things are heading if the present rhythm continues — a possibility to weigh, not a fixed outcome.
A few hexagrams that often come up in love questions
No hexagram is good or bad for love in itself; the meaning depends on the question and the changing lines. Here is the traditional reading of a few hexagrams that people asking about relationships often meet, as a starting point.
- Hexagram 31 Influence (Trạch Sơn Hàm): mutual attraction, feeling that flows both ways — ask how you are responding to the other person.
- Hexagram 32 Duration (Lôi Phong Hằng): lasting through steady ways — ask what helps the two of you endure without becoming rigid.
- Hexagram 37 The Family (Phong Hoả Gia Nhân): household patterns and roles — ask whether you have made your expectations clear to each other.
- Hexagram 38 Opposition (Hoả Trạch Khuê): difference and divergence — look for one small shared point instead of forcing unity too soon.
- Hexagram 61 Inner Truth (Phong Trạch Trung Phu): sincerity within — ask whether you are being honest with your own feelings.
The I Ching does not decide for you
A hexagram does not tell you in advance what the other person will do, and it cannot replace a real conversation. Use the cast to clarify your question, then take that question into life: a conversation, a pause, a responsible decision. If the relationship involves violence, threats or control, your safety matters more than any hexagram — reach out to someone you trust or to qualified support.

Frequently asked questions
Can an I Ching reading for love tell me whether we are meant to be?
No. The hexagram does not rule on whether a relationship is meant to be; it describes the situation so you can see clearly where you stand and how to act with a clear head.
Should I cast on behalf of my partner?
Ask from your own side: what you need to understand, what you can do. Asking on behalf of someone else's heart makes the hexagram hard to read and invites guesswork.
Do I need an account to cast for a love question?
No. The primary hexagram, changing lines, resulting hexagram and judgement appear right on the page; the seed reopens that exact cast. Readings of your own question are part of Premium membership.
How is this page different from the online I Ching cast?
It is the same three-coin tool; this page adds how to phrase a love question and how to read a hexagram about two people. For questions about other matters, use the online I Ching cast page.
