What is your Moon sign? Find your Moon sign
Your Moon sign is the zodiac sign the Moon was passing through when you were born. In astrology the Moon points to emotions and the need for safety — what helps you feel looked after — alongside the Sun sign (identity, vitality) and the ascendant (how you step into the world). The Moon moves about 12 to 15 degrees a day, so it changes sign roughly every two or three days: many people know their Moon sign from the birth date alone, while others also need the birth time. The tool below calculates it with Inti Soul's astrology engine and tells you which case your birth date falls into — free, with no account.

Feelings and needs
The Moon points to what helps you feel safe and looked after.
A new sign every 2–3 days
The Moon moves 12–15 degrees a day, so a birth time is sometimes needed.
One sign all day, no time needed
The tool checks the Moon's sign at 00:00 and 23:59 on your birth day.
How the Sun sign, the Moon sign and the ascendant differ
These three signs are often mentioned together because they change at very different speeds, so they need different amounts of birth data.
- Sun sign — identity and vitality. The Sun spends about a month in each sign, so the birth date is usually enough.
- Moon sign — emotions and the need for safety. The Moon changes sign about every two or three days, so a birth time is sometimes needed.
- Ascendant — how you step into the world and the first impression you make. It needs an accurate birth time and place; on average the rising sign changes about every two hours.
How the Moon sign is calculated
Inti Soul's astrology engine converts the local birth time to universal time using the time zone, calculates the Moon's ecliptic longitude at that moment, then divides the zodiac into 12 signs of 30 degrees each. Positions are calculated from the centre of the Earth, so the birthplace only decides the time zone. When you do not know your birth time, the tool checks the Moon at 00:00 and 23:59 on your birth day: if both fall in the same sign, that is your Moon sign; if not, the tool finds the minute when the Moon changed sign.
- 15/05/1990: the Moon stayed in Capricorn all day in Vietnam time — at 08:30 it was at 21.7 degrees Capricorn — so no birth time is needed.
- 16/05/1990: the Moon moved from Capricorn into Aquarius at about 00:31 Vietnam time, so almost everyone born that day has an Aquarius Moon, except those born before that moment.
How many days need a birth time?
On a sample of 2,040 days from 1960 to 2008, in Vietnam time, the Moon changed sign on about 44% of days. On the other 56% or so, the Moon stayed in one sign all day, so anyone born on those days knows their Moon sign without a birth time. The Moon's speed varies along its orbit, from about 11.8 to 15.4 degrees a day, so the change never falls at the same hour.
How the Moon sign is usually read
The common reading sets the Moon's theme — feelings, the need to be looked after, your natural reaction when tired — beside the qualities of the sign it is in. For example, in astrology Taurus carries steadiness: patient, practical, valuing comfort and stability; a Moon in Taurus is therefore often read as feeling safe when life has a rhythm and something to lean on. The tool on this page prints your sign's explanation from Inti Soul's chart dictionary, with a question for self-observation.
Limits to keep in mind
The Moon sign is only the position of one body in the whole birth chart. It does not describe all your emotions, it does not decide whom you are compatible with, and it does not replace listening to yourself or finding support when you need it. Use it as a question: what helps me feel safe, and am I making room for it?
